Performing Engineering Operations (Mechanical) NVQ Level 1 Diploma at Stafford College
This full-time course is primarily practical in nature and aimed at young people who wish to begin their training in mechanical engineering work but have not fulfilled the entry requirements for level 2. Successful completion of this course is therefore the entry requirement to the Level 2 NVQ/VRQ in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
The course, which builds Practical Skills, Maths and English, takes place in our well-equipped workshops on the campus. The technical part of the course consists of two qualifications, NVQ Level 1 Certificate in Performing Engineering Operations
- Working safely in an Engineering environment
- Working efficiently and effectively in Engineering
- Communicating Engineering Information
- Producing Components Using Hand Fitting Techniques
- Producing Components Using Turning Techniques
The course also includes the following mandatory components:
- Functional Skills - Mathematics
- Functional Skills - English
- Functional Skills - Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
English & Maths
We are committed to helping students improve their skills in English and Maths. Students on a full-time course at College who missed out on GCSE qualifications at Grades A-C in these subjects at school will attend additional classes and receive support to enhance their grades. Depending on individual ability, students will work towards GCSE, City & Guilds or Functional Skills Awards to ensure that they have the qualifications needed to progress to University or employment.
Learners must have a minimum of 2 GCSEs at Grades E or F in the areas of Maths and English or a minimum of level 1 in Literacy or Numeracy.
Assessment takes place continuously throughout the course, in the form of practical assignments and some written coursework.
