Graphic Products, Design and Technology at King Edward VII
This course concentrates on design and communication skills.
To be successful on this course you should be interested in graphic design or illustration, as well as packaging ad display products. You should enjoy art and find it easy ti sketch quickly when trying to explain ideas - you should be a good doodler! During the two year course you will develop the presentation techniques that will illustrate and promote your ideas. You will also examine and analyse existing graphic products and work on your own models and prototypes. You will regularly use the 12 PCs in the Graphics Room as well as the vinyl and card CAM cutter. You will use Auto Desk Inventor to design our product designs in 3D.
Year 10will include 3 main projects, including designing a DVD cover, point of sale device, poster campaign and promotional CD ROM. This foundation course will include lettering, design and layout skills, technical drawing and a range of presentation drawing techniques. These skills will form the basis of your GCSE coursework.
Year 11you will work mainly on your major project and follow a brief set by the examination board. You will produce a folder of design work to accompany the final prototypes of your products. You will be encouraged to use Photoshop and desktop publishing programmes when producing your design work. When producing your 3D models you are able to use a range of materials such as corrugated card, foamboard and polypropylene.
AssessmentThere is one tier of entry.
CourseworkOne piece started in Y10, finished by March of Y11 worth 60% of your final mark.
ExaminationsOne examination at the end of Y11 worth 40% of your final mark. It lasts 2 hours.
