Art GCSE at Firth Park Academy

Course content

Year 10 helps you to improve upon skills from Year 9 and introduces some new processes and techniques. You will work from observation, from looking at the work of other artists and from set themes which you develop into your own personal projects.

Year 11 involves mainly project work where you will be expected to think for yourself and develop your own ideas reflecting your individual strengths and interests. The final project is the ten hour controlled test which is an important part of your assessment.

Entry requirements

A genuine interest in Art and a desire to develop your own ideas. Projects are often developed by you to suit your own interests and skills so you must be prepared to do research and practice skills at home.

Assessment

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT

1. Coursework 60%

A minimum of three coursework assignments must be displayed as an exhibition for assessment.

2. Controlled test - 40%

This involves investigation, planning and preparation before a period of ten hours supervised test.
