Engineering and Manufacture - Level 1 Diploma at Yorkshire Coast College
This programme gives you the opportunity to gain an appreciation of the skills and knowledge necessary to work within the Engineering Industry.
The programme is a mix between practical and theory sessions and will provide an opportunity for work experience to enhance and development your skills.
The qualification will cover a range of Engineering Disciplines including Welding and Handfitting, and will provide an insight to the types of materials used within Engineering with a strong emphasis on Health and Safety.
You will develop the personal skills and attributes needed to work, learn and achieve your full potential at level one and progress to a higher level of study.
- Introduction to Working in Engineering
- Preparing for an interview
- Managing study and approaches to learning Introduction to machining Engineering materials
- Introduction to cutting/forming/assembling engineering materials
- Introduction to basic maths and science
- Introduction to CAD
- Intro to engineering project planning
Functional Skills are a mandatory part of the course and you will be required to study Maths, English or ICT depending on your previous achievements in these subjects.
GCSE Grades D – G
Following successful completion of the course you will be able to progress onto a Level 2 Engineering programme or enter the world of work and continue your studies as an Apprentice.
As well as the area's very successful existing Engineering and Manufacturing industries, new technologies such as an offshore wind farm are to be built off our coast at a cost of £300 billion which will need, for instance, operations and maintenance engineers to keep it running smoothly.
Yorkshire Coast College is working closely with all our partners, including Scarborough Borough Council, to ensure that we remain at the forefront of skills training in the area.
Our partnership approach will ensure that the people of Scarborough and the surrounding area develop skills that are needed by employers, hence developing job opportunities for local people. The current local average annual wage on entry – depending on qualification – is currently between £18,000 - £22,000.
