English Language AS Level at Grantham College
If you choose to study English language you will develop a wide range of transferable skills such as text analysis, critical reading and creative use of language, which offer excellent preparation for both further study and employment. You will develop understanding of both written and spoken English language working in real life situations and contexts. You will also have the opportunity to debate contentious issues and be a creative and original producer of varied texts.
You will be introduced to terminology for language study and explore the two contexts of language and power and language and gender in depth. You will analyse authentic texts in written and spoken mode. You will also develop your own writing skills in different genres and for different audiences and purposes.
GCSE English Language, preferably at Grade B or above.

Two 1½ hour examinations: Exploring Language and Exploring Contexts
Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.
English Language can be used to gain entry to university in combination with other subjects. The skills it demands underpin all other academic subjects.
