Mathematics GCSE at Farnham College

Course description

If you achieved a grade D in GCSE Mathematics, this is a valuable course for you.

Studied over one year, it is linear and will provide you with a range of useful skills for other subjects as well as for everyday life. 

There is an opportunity to improve on some of your results before the end of the course. 

Course content

Topics cover number, statistics and probability, algebra, shape, space and measures.

You will learn how to use and apply mathematical skills by solving problems both with and without a calculator.

Whether you intend to proceed to Higher Education or employment, this qualification is a useful stepping-stone. 

Concepts will be learnt through a mixture of active-learning and discussion. Students' common misconceptions will be challenged in order to aid understanding. Problem solving will be undertaken individually and in groups, both with and without a calculator.

Entry requirements

Mathematics at GCSE grade D and E (exceptional circumstances)


100% exam. Assessment is by two paper taken at the end of the year.


Future opportunities

Necessary for many Level 3 and degree courses and also general employment.
