Fine Art & Design A Level at Bordesley Green Girls' School & Sixth Form

Course description

This course will offer you the following:

The first year of the course focuses on developing and exploring Knowledge skills and understanding with the opportunity to complete a Set Task in May. You will enhance your learning by visiting galleries, working with an artist and drawing outside the classroom environment. Investigating and researching the work of artists is an integral part of the course and you will develop aesthetic understanding and critical judgement.

The second year of the course combines a personal investigation ( practical portfolio and related written essay of between 2000-3000 words) and a 15 hour set task. You will receive the Externally Set Task  paper in February and sit the examination in May

Course content

AS Level : Natural Form

You will explore the formal elements of drawing, develop existing skills and learn new techniques. You will develop your investigative, imaginative, creative and intuitive capabilities. You will receive your paper for  Externally Set Task in January and sit the examination in May.






Entry requirements

5 grade A-C Including English Language, Mathematics

C or Merit in Art Related Course at GCSE/Level 2 & Portfolio prensentation


AS and A Level Paper Option and How it will be examined

AS : SET TASK 100% ( Stand alone qualification)

A2  Personal investigation 60%

      Externally Set Task   40%

Future opportunities

These qualifications offer learners an opportunity to fully develop and explore their chosen specialism, whilst expanding their knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of specialist areas. Learners will develop a deep understanding of their chosen specialism and the ability to critically evaluate their own work and the work of others. Learners are able to tailor their course to fit their individual needs, choices and aspirations in order to follow their chosen progression route through to Further or Higher Education or the workplace.
