GCSE Art at Ruskin - The Priory Academy
What will my child be learning and when?
In year 10 students focus on acquiring and developing skills in a broad range of art techniques and processes.
A series of short projects and activities are run to encourage progressive development of skills and understanding.
In year 11 students work on a sustained programme of study and are required to produce a portfolio of artwork.
GCSE Art and Textile courses place great emphasis on students conducting meaningful and thorough research into their chosen topic. The portfolio of work produced in year 11 must contain evidence that the student has collected information and images from primary and secondary sources and has used this knowledge in the development and production of final pieces.
The coursework (portfolio of artwork) commences in the 1st term of Year 11 and continues through to the distribution of the examination paper. The examination paper is distributed at the beginning of term 4 in year 11. Students must answer one question from the paper and are given at least four weeks to conduct research, gather visual references, develop ideas and produce maquettes or plans for their final pieces. They then have ten hours under exam conditions to complete a final outcome.
