Art and Design Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate at Darlington College
If you love using original ideas to create something, then working in art and design will be a fun and regarding experience that enables you to demonstrate your artistic flair. This practical course is designed to help you to develop a professional and diverse range of skills within art and design and to strengthen your creativity culminating in the production of a professional portfolio enabling progression onto a Level 3 course or employment. You will need to be a creative person with a keen interest in art and design and have a commitment and determination to succeed.
If you have not achieved a C grade or above in English or maths, you will as part of your course be required to work towards this as part of your study programme. You will be given the opportunity to go on work experience at certain times during your course.
To develop your employability opportunities you may also be given enrichment classes. This may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.
4 GCSEs grades D-E including GCSE maths, English and art, as well as a satisfactory school report. We will request a school or college report and you will attend an interview at the college. You will need to bring a portfolio of your art work along with you to your interview.
You will develop your skills through a mixture of practical workshop and theory based sessions. You will be assessed through a series of set practical tasks, assignments, industry driven projects and portfolio building. There will also be an externally set assessment.
Opportunities exist to enter the industry at junior level in many job roles, including:
- Photography assistant
- Design assistant
We do recommend further study if you are wishing to progress within the industry. You can progress on to a specialist Level 3 (Extended) Diploma in Graphics, Fine Art or Photography.
