English Language at Fakenham Academy (College)

Course description

At AS, you will create two pieces of your own writing for coursework. To prepare for the exam you will learn about how gender and power issues affect the language we use. The most challenging aspect of the course is the substantial amount of new vocabulary you will need to learn to enable you to analyse writing and to talk linguistically.

The A2 course builds on your knowledge of language study from As, but offers more freedom when it comes to choosing your coursework topic.

You will investigate an area of language study in which you are personally interested and then produce a piece of original writing that is linked to your investigation. The exam topics introduce you to the study of how language changes over time and own children learn to speak and write. You will be expected to read around topics more widely on your own and to do research outside lesson time.

Entry requirements

You need an interest in the way people use language (both written and spoken) and have an ability tow write clear and controlled English. You should have achieved a Higher Paper grade C at least in both English Language and English Literature.
