OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Media at North Shropshire College - NSC

Course description

This course provides grounding in various aspects of media production for the workplace. Much of this is practical in nature and is designed to cover a range of relevant digital and creative media skills and methods, as well as introduce you to some important media concepts.

The course consists of six units. The units are: Introduction to Media Products and Audiences; Comics and Graphic Novels; Graphic Design for Media Products; Photography for Media Products; Planning and Producing a media Product; and Print-based Advertising Media. Each unit consists of several tasks/assignments which must be completed successfully. The course can be successfully completed at a pass, a merit, or a distinction. The units are practical in nature and there are no exams. All work is internally marked by tutors but is also externally moderated.

This course is likely to be of interest to students considering working in the media, (TV, radio, graphic design, photography, video games, magazines, advertising etc.). It also provides opportunities for progression onto BTEC level 3 courses or A’ levels.

How can I prepare myself before the course begins?

Research on the internet and/or in books what the creative media consists of and how print and video productions are made. Research careers in the creative media sector.

Entry requirements

  • A Level 1 (or higher) qualification in a related area
  • Four GCSE’s at grades D-G including English and Maths (or a comparable standard of literacy and numeracy)
  • Other related foundation level qualifications.
