Physics AS / A2 at The Hermitage Academy

Course description

This course allows smooth progression from GCSE Physics it provides an opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles of Physics and gain hands-on practical skills and data analysis skills. At both AS and A2 you will develop an appreciation of ‘how science works’ and its relevance beyond the laboratory investigating how the subject links to other sciences and how it underpins important technologies.

At AS you will cover units on ‘Particles, Quantum Phenomena and Electricity’ and ‘Mechanics, Materials and Waves’. At A2 you will cover two further units on ‘Fields and Further Mechanics’ and ‘Nuclear and Thermal Physics’ this last unit also contains an additional option section which in this case is ‘Astro-physics’. These units are assessed through a written exam paper. At both AS and A2 there is a centre assessed unit, ISA, which comprises of a practical investigation followed by a controlled assessment of the investigation.

Entry requirements

Entry Requirements: At least a grade B in GCSE Physics or Additional Science, and Mathematics
