BTEC Level 3 Travel And Tourism National Extended Certificate at Astor College
This is an interesting and practical course that is directly related to the vibrant, exciting and rapidly expanding Travel and Tourism industry. Students will study a wide range of travel related topics and the course has been designed to help students acquire the necessary skills and qualifications for a career in the Travel and Tourism Industry.
The Extended Certificate is a two year course that is the equivalent to one A Level.
Travel and Tourism students may decide to take up a place at university studying one of a number of degrees related to this subject. Popular degree courses include Event Management, Tourism Management or Hospitality Management.
Other students may opt to gain some valuable industry experience, for example in the Airline Industry, Resort Services, Tourism and Hospitality or Trainee Management posts.
A qualification in Travel and Tourism will provide students with essential knowledge of the industry and help prepare them for Higher Education or employment.
The Extended Certificate course covers a wide range of Travel and Tourism topics of which three are mandatory:
The World of Travel and Tourism - The travel and tourism industry is studied to develop the skills needed to examine, interpret and analyse a variety of statistics that measure the importance of tourism to the UK.
Global Destinations - Different types of destinations and their importance are studied to investigate the features and appeal of a range of global destinations.
Managing the Customer Experience - Exploring and applying ways of managing internal and external customer experience to support organisational success and to develop customer service skills.
One of the following optional units is also studied:-
Specialist Tourism / Visitor Attractions / Passenger Transport
Events, Conferences and Exhibitions / Work Experience In Travel And Tourism
5 GCSEs at C / 4 or above, including English Language or Literature
Students can find work in such areas as Travel Agents, Tour Operators, Tourist Information Centres, Airlines and Traffic Control.
