Course description

The emphasis of this course is on how science is used in different jobs. You will explore the range of opportunities available in the science industries and gain all of the skills you need to work in a laboratory and research environment with particular reference to working in Criminology or Forensics.

Course content

The emphasis of this course is on how science is used in different jobs. You will explore the range of opportunities available in the science industries and gain all of the skills you need to work in a laboratory and research environment with particular reference to working in Criminology or Forensics. All students study the following core subjects: • Biology • Chemistry • Physics • Maths • Investigating Human Behaviour • Level 2 Functional Skills Maths & English

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D, including a science, Maths and English. Alternatively a BTEC Introductory Certificate or Diploma, appropriate NVQ Level 1, or another relevant Level 1 or Foundation qualification, including a Level 1 functional skills in Maths and English. You will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.

Assessment

This course is coursework based however the coursework may take the form of a test. This is the lecturer’s choice however the main forms of assessment are written assignments, assessed practical’s and powerpoint presentations.

Future opportunities

Students that have successfully completed this course could progress to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science (Criminology and Forensics).

Further information

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma is a vocational qualification which is recognised by employers for the skill it provides in a specific subject area.
