Forestry and Arboriculture, Level 3 Extended Diploma at Abingdon and Witney College

Course description

The trees and timber industry contributes more than £286 million to the UK economy and employs approximately 22,452 people. Within the course you will develop practical skills where you will use a range of machinery, chainsaws and cover arboriculture, habitat management and tree care. You will also develop your knowledge of plant, tree and soil science, tree surveying and identification, pests and diseases, business and contract management. Work experience is integral to the course and you will be helped to find a suitable placement.There will be opportunities for students to access external assessments to gain chainsaw and other related tree care certificates of competence. (Students wishing to take these external NPTC certificates of competence must pay assessment and registration fees direct to the awarding body).



Entry requirements

Students must have one of the following - 4 GCSEs at grade A - C which should include English, maths and science OR a full level 2 vocational qualification at Merit grade plus be able to demonstrate at least level 1 functional skills in English and maths. Mature applicants who do not possess any formal qualifications are welcome to apply and will be considered on an individual basis.
