AQA English Literatre B
Unit 1  - Categorising texts 60% of AS mark
Unit 2 -  Original writing Coursework 40 % of AS mark
Unit 3 -  Developing Language Exam 30% of total A Level mark
Unit 4  - Investigating Language   20% of total A Level mark

Course content

Unit 1  . Categorising texts - 2 questions one on basic language analysis via a grouping exercise, one on Language and Society (Language and Gender or Language and Power)

Unit 2 -  Original Writing Coursework - 2 of Inform, Persuade, Advise/instruct or Entertain with style model shown and commentary included
Unit 3 -  Developing Language 2 Exam questions : Language Change since 1700; Language Acquisition in children

Unit  4  - Language Investigation - Extended personal research and a piece of popular journalism based on it.

Entry requirements

Grade Bs or above for GCSE Language and Literature

Future opportunities

English Language, with its focus on concise linguistic analysis, will support students moving on to any discipline at degree level. Students will develop the ability to express themselves well in both orally and in writing. The coursework in particular develops independent learning. For these reasons it is highly regarded by university admissions tutors and fits with Maths, Science, Humanities and Social Science courses.

Language students move into a very wide range of careers from Medicine or Business to the media.
