Musical Theatre Level 3 at Northampton College
The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Musical Theatre is designed to develop your potential for working in the performing arts and to prepare you for work or further study. You will have the opportunity to experience a range of performing skills, including dance, acting and singing. The method of learning is by a mixture of both tutor led and practical sessions. The Extended Diploma is a 2 year course and comprises of 18 units including: - Performance Workshop - Performing Arts Business - Historical Context of the Arts - Rehearsing and Performing - Musical Theatre Performance - Developing Voice - Dance Performance - Principles of Acting - Delivering Classical Ballet Technique - Variety Performance - Acting Auditions - Applying Acting Techniques - Singing Skills - Jazz Dance - Tap Dance - The Healthy Performer You will also get the opportunity to perform in a variety of theatres and locations on a number of occasions and to go on trips to theatres and shows, both locally and in the West End of London, representing the college at Awards Ceremonies and out in the community. If you have not yet achieved a Grade C in GCSE Mathematics, you will also be working towards this qualification as part of your study programme. To get the most out of this course you will need to be enthusiastic, happy to work with others and confident to perform in front of an audience
Students who wish to pursue a career in Musical Theatre and hope to progress to further study or training.
Four GCSEs at Grade C or above including English or BTEC Level 2 in Performing Arts at Merit plus GCSE English at Grade C.
Assessment will be by both practical and written assignments, including classroom based work and performance. From 2016, many BTEC qualifications will also include some form of examination or timed assessment. Details are to be confirmed.
After successful completion of this course you could progress to:- Higher National Diploma- Degree- Drama School- Musical Theatre School- Dance School
A registration fees will apply to students aged nineteen or over on 1st September. This will be approximately £175, payable at enrolment. We recommend you participate in the following activities and would ask you to be prepared to pay an approximate cost of £80 when you enrol with us in September: - Theatre trips and visits - personalised hooded sweatshirt We also recommend you purchase the following:- - Jazz shoes/boots - Ballet shoes - Tap shoes - New Yorkers Jazz and ballet uniform will be part of the uniform requirements on the course. A dictaphone will be required for singing/dance sessions.
