Product Design - Resistant Materials A-Level at The West Bridgford School

Course description

An A level in Product Design -  Resistant Materials will give you the opportunity to develop your creativity supported by teachers who have experience in all areas of technology. You will be encouraged to investigate a range of techniques and materials to develop original and creative designs to a high quality. Through analysis and problem solving the Product Design A level will give you the skills and abilities to be-come an innovator of the 21st century!

Resistant Materials provides you with opportunities to apply your creativity to technological products.

You will explore innovative ideas on how to improve products through the of use of a wide range of materials such as wood, metal, plastics etc. also using CAD and technology to develop your ideas.

YEAR 12:

Coursework portfolio in 3 stages, product investigation, design and making (60%)

Exam – 1hour 30 minutes exam paper which will assess pupils knowledge and understanding of a wide range of materials and techniques.

YEAR 13:

Coursework consisting of a single design and make project plus 2 hour exam on designing for the future.

Entry requirements

Grade B in GCSE Resistant Materials, within one of the below:

3 A Level subjects + General Studies: 3 Grade B in chosen subjects + 2 Grade C, including Grade B in Maths & English Language

4 A Level subjects + General Studies: 2 Grade A/A* + 2 Grade B in chosen subjects + 1 Grade C, including Grade B in Maths & English Language
