Business BTEC Level 3 at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy

Course description

Why choose Business?
This is an ideal course if you have an interest in business and after the Sixth Form wish to become an entrepreneur, pursue a business management career or study for a business-related degree at university. This broad based course will provide you with a good knowledge and understanding of the varied and dynamic world of business. You will consider the range of business organisations and the factors which shape the nature of organisations operating in an increasingly complex business world.

If you prefer coursework and projects to examinations then this is another good reason for you to take this course - all assessment is through coursework! As well as learning in depth about the key operations of a business, having to meet the regular deadlines, work in teams and make presentations will help you to develop your self-confidence and organisational, communication and teamworking skills.  You will also have the opportunity to attend business related visits as well as join the Career Academy.

What will I study?
Year 12:
Resource Management, Human Resources, Marketing, Accounting, Retailing, Health and Safety and preparing a detailed Business Plan.

Year 13:
You can follow additional units of general interest or you can choose to specialise in a certain pathway - marketing, financial management, human resources or retail - to support your employment or university ambitions.

What can I study it with?
The programme is very flexible and allows you to study 6-units (equivalent to one A Level), 9-units (equivalent to 1.5 A Levels) or 12-units (equivalent to 2 A Levels). The course combines well with A Levels and BTEC Level 3 courses in related subjects such as Law, Economics, IT, Travel & Tourism and Financial Studies.

Career opportunities
Following the general course or one of the specialist pathways will prepare you for progression onto a wide range of business degree courses at university. This is also a very good option if you are considering employment (eg advanced apprenticeship) in one of the many functions of a business.

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE grades A*- C including:

Grade C in English Language and Grade C in Mathematics. It is not necessary to have studied BTEC Level 2 or GCSE Business Studies.
