DJ & Electronic Music Production UAL Level 3 Diploma at Northbrook College Sussex

Course description

The DJ & Electronic Music Production course is a one or two year qualification for aspiring DJs wanting to progress their enthusiasm for music into a profession, by developing skills in music production and DJ techniques.

Course content

Students will be using industry standard equipment and software provided by Northbrook College with its 50+ iMac Pro computers and 20+ soundproof recording/performance studios, Pioneer 2000 Nexus DJ equipment as well as the legendary Technics 1210 turntables.

The course is aimed at developing skills using the industry’s leading equipment and software, including:

- Pioneer 
- Technics
- Apple Logic Pro Studio X
- Ableton Live 9
- Native Instruments Komplete (which includes NI Massive Synth)
- Serato Scratch Live (taught using time-code hardware)

If you have less that grade C in GCSE English or Maths, you will also study that subject at college.

Entry requirements

To start on this course, you need:

4 GCSEs at grades A* to C including either English or Maths (if you have A* to C in English, your Maths grade must be minimum D - or vice versa) 
a relevant Level 2 qualification, including English and Maths requirements.

(If you will not have the above qualifications, you may be able to start on a Level 2 Music course instead, before applying to move on to this Level 3 course).


You will be assessed through a range of assignments linked to the course units. The methods of assessment vary from unit to unit but all include practical elements and there are no exams except for short Key Skill tests. Other modes of assessment include gigs, workshops, recordings, written work and presentations.

Future opportunities

After 1 year, you can achieve a UAL Diploma in Music Performance and Production. Some students will seek employment but most will apply for the Extended Diploma course (below).

After 2 years you can achieve a UAL Extended Diploma in Music Performance and Production. This is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This means you can apply for university level courses or seek work in the music and entertainment industry.
