Media & IT - OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma Level 2 at Redcar & Cleveland College

Course description

ICT skills are essential for success in employment and higher education. OCR Nationals deliver these skills, effectively engaging and inspiring students of every ability to achieve great things.

This is a very practical course which equips learners with the basic skills of game design and modeling, as well as hardware and software aspects of building computers.

Course content

It is made up of two qualifications, the OCR Cambridge Certificates in IT and in Media.

Students will be work toward units such as: communication methods in IT; installing computer hardware, developing computer games (programming language), 2D games development and games production

This qualification is suitable for:

  • Students who would like to learn about computers, in particular installing hardware, programming and working in the IT industry
  • Learners who would like to work in the media industry. The course covers 2D games development and production and introduces media products to audiences
  • Learners studying in preparation for employment in IT or Media
  • Learners wishing to gain a Level 2 qualification to support continued study in further and higher education, either in IT or Media or in another subject area.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grades D-E or above, two grade Ds must include maths and English, or Level 1 IT including maths and English Level 1.

Future opportunities

What successful students may go on to do: Successful students may go on to the Level 3 Extended Certificate in Media or IT, or gain employment as a trainee in IT or Media.
