Business BTEC Diploma Level 3 at Mayflower High School

Course description

A Level 3 BTEC Diploma is a practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

It is equivalent to two A Levels and will be taken as a two-year full-time course.

The course is made up of twelve units – four core units, which everyone takes, and eight specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study particular areas in more depth.

Course content

What will I study at in Year One of Level 3 BTEC?

A Level 3 BTEC Diploma is a practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

It is equivalent to two A Levels and will be taken as a two-year full-time course.

The course is made up of twelve units – four core units, which everyone takes, and eight specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study particular areas in more depth.

In the first year of the course, year one, students will study six units which is the equivalent of one A-Level and will make up the first 50% of their total grade.

• Investigating Business Resources;

• Introduction to Marketing;

• Effective People, Communication and Information;

• An Introduction to Market Research;

• Managing a Business Event.

What will I study at Year Two of Level 3 BTEC?

During the second year of the course students will study six optional units that will make up the further 50% of their total grade.

• Understanding Retail;

• Introduction to Accounting;

• Exploring Team Development;

• Exploring Creative Product Promotion;

• Aspects of Contract and Business Law;

• Starting a small business.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs minimum grade C or Level 2 BTEC Diploma minimum grade of a
Merit. A grade C at GCSE English and Mathematics is desirable but not
essential.
