Year 1: Subsidiary Diploma
Year 2: Extended Diploma
This course is aimed at those interested in a career in the professional design, surveying or the supervisory side of the construction industry including:
- Civil engineering
- Architecture
- Surveying
- Estate management
- Quantity surveying
- Building surveying.
This is a follow-on course from the Subsidiary Diploma in Architecture, Civil Engineering & Surveying. This BTEC is directly equivalent to three A Levels and can be used to progress to university study or employment.

- Analytical methods
- Construction science and materials
- Construction and the environment
- Construction technology and design
- Graphical detailing
- Health, safety and welfare Year 1 additional units
- Building technology
- Planning, organisation and control of resources
- Surveying in construction
Year 2 units
- Building regulations
- Building service
- Building surveying
- Setting out processes
- Planning procedures
- Design procedures
- Measuring, tendering and estimating
- Topographical surveying In addition, you will complete a standalone Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Level 3 qualification, which is essential for progression to industry.

Entry requirements

Selection is by interview. You must have at least one of the following: • 5 GCSEs at minimum grade C or equivalent including maths, English and science. • Appropriate knowledge and/or experience gained at work or from other related qualifications. You must have successfully completed the Subsidiary Diploma in Architecture, Civil Engineering & Surveying before progressing to the Year 2 Extended Diploma.


You will be assessed continually throughout the course through set assignments.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to a degree programme in the following areas: 
- Architectural design 
- Civil engineering 
- Construction management 
- Building surveying
- Quantity surveying. 
Progression to a HNC/HND is also an option. Those who completed this course have obtained places at the following universities:
