Media Studies A Level at Oldershaw Academy

Course description

Are you interested in the world we live in? Do you enjoy discussing media texts you have watched or read? Do you have an ambition to create and produce your own media texts?

Media Studies focuses on contemporary topics and media texts directly relevant to your lives in today’s world. You will study a variety of topics including advertising and marketing, documentary, the music and film industry and representation and post modernism in the media.

Course content

A course that embraces new technology. Opportunities to work with state of the art technology in the academy’s Apple suites. Students will learn to use professional standard software and resources to construct Media artefacts in print and video format. The course provides you with the opportunity to develop new practical skills that are valued by prospective employees; for example, you could film, direct and edit your own music video or short documentary.

Entry requirements

Students with 5 A*-C GCSE grades including Maths and English. (GCSE Media Studies is desirable but not essential for this popular A-Level course).

Future opportunities

Media Studies is a rapidly growing area, and this course would prepare students for a professional role particularly in the ‘new media’ employment sector or further study at degree level.
