GCSE Physical Education at Nether Stowe School

Course description

The Edexcel Physical Education GCSE syllabus is for students who have an interest in Physical Education and Sport and enjoy being active and apprediate the benefits of keeping fit and healthy. Students should ideally participate in sport either during extra-curricular clubs at school or as a member of a sports club outside school.

The syllabus is assessed over 2 units:

Unit 1: Examination - Theory Paper worth 40% of the total marks externally assessed through a written examination.

Unit 2: Controlled assessment worth 60% of the total marks

Section 1: Perfromance in Physical Education worth 48% which includes 4 practical performances, one of which may be in the role of leader of official.

Section 2: Analysis of Performance in one of the chosen activities worth 12%. This will include planning , performing and evaluating a personal exercise programme and will be a written controlled assessment.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Sport and Physical Education or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to sport and physical education such as a Physiotherapist or PE Teacher. You could also train further in one or more sports and become a specialist instructor in those areas. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
