BTEC Music Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at The Downs School

Course description

We are now offering students the opportunity to study a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Music Performance; the equivalent to an A Level qualification. This course is ideal for students who are currently learning an instrument and performing, have a strong interest in music and the music industry. This course is an excellent follow on from BTEC Level 2 in Music at Key Stage 4.

Course content

The BTEC is a practical course; work is undertaken in a variety of ways and is largely project-based. There is a lot to learn and this is explored, as much as possible, in a practical way.

Students can choose methods and techniques which suit them best when it comes to collating evidence of their work towards projects.

There are two compulsory units within the course:  Music Performance Techniques  Solo Performance Skills Students select 4 optional units as a class from a selection of:  Classical Music in Practice  Composing Music  Marketing and Promotion in the Music Industry  Modern Music in Practice  Music in the Community  Music Project  Pop Music in Practice  The Sound and Music Industry  Special Subject Investigation

All of these units equip students with an in-depth understanding of the workings of music performance and the music industry, and will leave them with many invaluable skills for any workplace in the future.

Entry requirements

To be accepted on to the course it is required students are currently learning an instrument and achieve 4 or more GCSE‟s at GRADES A*-C.
