Year 12
In Year 12 the topics covered are:
- Development of Practical Skills
- Foundations in Chemistry
- Periodic Table & Energy
- Core Organic Chemistry
Year 13 At A Level the topics covered are those in Year 12 plus:
- Physical Chemistry and Transition Elements
- Organic Chemistry and Analysis
Entry requirements
Grade BB in GCSE Science and grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics. At least one A grade is advisable, particularly in Mathematics.
Minimum point score of 38 including Maths and English at grade 4 at GCSE. This is equivalent to 4B and 4C grades overall at GCSE. Students will also need to achieve the subject specific criteria below:

Assessment
Students will sit terminal exams consisting of 3 papers.
Paper 1 & 2 will last 2hr 15mins and have a weighting of 37% each towards the final mark.
Paper 3 will last 1hr 30mins and has a weighting of 26%.
The course has a non-exam assessed practical skills component which is reported separately from the final grade.
