ICT - OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma at Parkside School

Course description

The Cambridge Technical offers a great opportunity to further develop your ICT skills and experiences, so you will become an independent and effective ICT user. During the course you will extend your current skills and develop a range of new ICT skills. The range of work that you will cover will provide you with a range of opportunities to develop analytical and problem solving skills and others such as planning and conducting a research project, all of which are excellent preparation for Higher Education. These skills are harnessed to build a portfolio of work that showcases their achievements.

As the course and you develop as independent learners the opportunities to study a wide variety of ICT disciplines allowing you to prepare effectively for life beyond Parkside.




Entry requirements

To take full advantage of this course ideally you will have studied either GCSE ICT or OCR Nationals in ICT at GCSE, and have at least a C in English and Maths. 




Unit 1 Communication and Employability skills for IT

Unit 2 Information Systems

Unit 10 Developing Computer Games

Unit 12 Website Production

Unit 17 Interactive Media Authoring

Unit 18 Web animation for interactive Media OR

Unit 19 Spreadsheet modeling

The course is assessed via coursework portfolio’s of evidence one per unit of work, these are graded at

Pass (E grade),

Merit (C grade)

Distinction (A grade).

Distinction * (A* grade)

Each unit of work is competed within a set time and is externally assessed twice a year.

The course continues the independent learning style of GCSE, with the usual set tasks and deadlines, it is well supported in school via classroom and web based learning resources, the access to a computer at home is very useful, but not arequirement.

Future opportunities


Students who complete the course will be well equipped to move onto degrees and BTEC HND’s, the course is worth 120 UCAS points.
