A Level Spanish at The King's Academy

Course description

The course aims to equip each student with highly developed linguistic skills which will enable them to understand and communicate in Spanish at an Advanced level. All four linguistic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) are tested throughout the course and strong emphasis is placed on grammatical accuracy.

The course is based upon a number of topics which are firmly rooted in the culture of the target language country. The subjects studied include areas such as the media, the arts, social issues, technology, education and the environment.

AS Level

Unit 1 - Listening, Reading and Writing (70% of the total AS marks, 35% of the total A Level marks). Students are presented with extended listening and reading texts and are required to produce a mixture of non-verbal and written answers in Spanish about Media, Popular Culture, Healthy Living/Lifestyle and Family/Relationships, as well as an essay on one of the four topics studied.

    Unit 3 - Listening, Reading and Writing
    Students are presented with extended listening and reading texts about the environment, the Multicultural Society and Contemporary Social Issues and are required to produce a mixture of non-verbal and written answers in Spanish and English. They must also write an essay in Spanish on a cultural topic.
