Physical Education A Level at Oldershaw Academy

Course description

Do you have a genuine interest in Sport? Are you interested in pursuing a career related to Physical Education, Sport or Fitness and Health? This course offers a broad and balanced insight into the aspects of physical education. It takes a multi-disciplinary approach, encouraging the development of physical skills and the knowledge and understanding of the theoretical aspects of sports science.

Course content

The course is split into 4 units, 2 as t AS and 2 at A2

Unit 1 – Participation in Sport and Recreation (AS)
This unit is externally assessed through 1Hour 30minute examination.

Unit 2 – The Critical Sports Performer (AS)
This unit is internally assessed and moderated

Unit 3 – Preparation for Optimum Sports Performance (A2)
This unit is externally assessed through 2 hour examination

Unit 4 – The Developing Sports Performer (A2)
This unit is internally assessed and moderated

Entry requirements

Grade C or above in GCSE (theory) Physical Education and English Language. Good grades in other supporting subjects are likely to provide the best basis for success.

Future opportunities

It is a course appropriate for those with a keen interest in sport. They may wish to continue into Higher Education in a number of fields. In particular; Physical Education Teaching both at secondary and primary level, Recreation and Leisure Management, Sports Coaching, Sports Science, Police and Armed Services. The 'A' Level is accepted by all Universities and Colleges including Oxbridge.
