Early Years Education and Care Level 3 Diploma at Furness College

Course description

This course is for anyone who wants to work at a supervisory level in the children and young people’s workforce.

Course content

Your course will involve two days of work placement each week. This placement will provide you with experience in a variety of different settings throughout
the year.

You will also study the following units: an introduction to working with children, development from conception to age 16 years, supporting children, keeping
children safe, principles underpinning the role of the practitioner working with children, promoting a healthy environment for children, play and learning in children’s education, caring for children and the development of professional skills with children’s education.

Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grades A- C (including maths and English) or other equivalent qualifications. Students will be required to attend an interview.

Assessment

Classroom sessions are assessed using discussions, questioning and tasks to complete a portfolio. Work placement is prepared for during classroom activities and assessed by observation by an assigned College Assessor. Students must be competent in both areas.

Financial information

Due to the nature of the course – Working with Children – all students must have a DBS check. A College t-shirt is required for work placement.

Future opportunities

Students may be able to progress on to Furness College or university to study early years foundation degrees, nursing degrees or teacher training. Progression is
based on aptitude and a successful interview. Our past students are employed as nursery supervisors, pre-school/crèche/playgroup leaders, or nursery nurses.
