Course description

Students study units which provide an understanding of sport in the wider contexts of coaching and leadership, anatomy and Physiology, the body's short and long term responses to physical activity and the framework of sport in the UK and the organisations involved. They will also develop transferable skills such as planning, communication, adaptability and leadership.

Course content

In year 1 students are externally assessed on Body Systems and the Effects of Physical Activity.

Another unit in Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership is internally assessed and externally moderated.

In year 2 further units in Sports Organisation and Development (which is assessed externally), Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation and Sport and Exercise Psychology are studied, these latter units being internally assessed and externally moderated.

Entry requirements

Students are required to have achieved 5 x 9-4 grades at GCSE.

Students can go on to study a wide variety of academic and vocational courses in Higher Education with this qualification and/or go into a wide variety of careers in sport, teaching, coaching, health & fitness, performance, public services and armed forces. The course develops key leadership, organisation and communication skills.
