Course description

Drama & Theatre Studies:

Drama and Theatre Studies is an exciting and fulfilling subject that offers a range of future career possibilities. It is a requirement for a number of degree courses including Acting, Directing, Drama and Theatre Studies, Performing Arts and Technical Theatre. As a creative and academic subject it is well regarded by universities to support an application in most subjects and underpins applications for employment in the performance and creative industry and public and people focused job roles.

Skills developed in the study of A-Level Drama and Theatre Studies include devising techniques, character development (voice and movement), working from scripts, technical theatre and the analysis and evaluation of play texts and live theatre performance.

Entry requirements

To study A-Levels at RSFC you must have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A* - C, covering at least four different subject areas. Two of the 5 A* - C grades must include GCSE Maths and English Language. A good school reference, attendance and behaviour record are also required as is a positive college interview. One of the 5 GCSE grades A*-C must be in Drama or Performing Arts or a Pass in BTEC Performance in Acting.

Financial information

If you are between 16 and 19 years old and think that you might struggle with the costs of full-time education you may apply for a bursary. The students most in need will be eligible to receive a bursary of £1,200 a year. This group includes:

• Disabled young people in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance

• Young people in care• Care leavers

• Young people in receipt of income support

Other students facing genuine financial difficulties can apply for the Discretionary Bursary Fund (DBF).The DBF can support students with travel costs, equipment, books and other course-related costs.
