Course description

A career in Health and Social Care is one of the most rewarding ways to spend your working life as you are providing care, support and help to those who most need it. There are a wide range of potential career choices in this industry from a Home Carer to a Social Worker.

On these courses you will learn from our Health & Social Care team come with a wealth of industry-based experience, from Youth Work to Ambulance Crew and Nursery Nursing to Primary Teaching, they’ll prepare you for everything you need to know to make the  most in a worthwhile, rewarding and challenging career.

Course content

This is the qualification for those wanted to work in the Emergency Care sector in the Ambulance Service although further qualifications will be required in order to pursue a career.


The course includes the principles of infection prevention and control, monitoring patients, anatomy and physiology, major incidents and understanding mental health problems.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for our courses depend on the specific requirements of each Programme of Study and an individual's previous experience, which will all be discussed during the interview process.

The following list offers a guide as to what you might be expected to achieve to gain entry on to a particular level of a course.

Entry Level 3 Programmes

No formal entry qualifications but subject to approval from the Foundation Learning Assessment Team.
 

Level 1 Programmes

GCSEs grade E to G or equivalent, including Foundation Awards and Entry Level Certificates.
 

Level 2 Programmes

Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 4 GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 1 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at Level 1.
 

Level 3 Programmes

Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language OR Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C or above including Maths and English language and relevant subject qualification OR Minimum of Level 2 course in chosen subject at merit or above and English language and Maths at level 2.

Future opportunities

If you choose to carry on your studies you could progress to study for a career in Counselling or Hospital and Health Care, Mental Health, Criminology or Social Care, all of which are possible at the University Centre Grimsby (UCG).

If you are considering going into Nursing, UCG offers the Foundation Degree in Hospital & Healthcare, which recently won a prestigious Association of Colleges’ Beacon Award for Higher Education in Further Education and offers a route into the industry or to continue studying.

There are endless possibilities for a career in Health & Social Care in North East Lincolnshire, with many of our learners choosing to go straight into full-time careers like Residential or Private Care, or even working in one of the region’s many hospitals.
