History at Ormiston Park Academy
If you enjoy learning about topical events and how they shape our day-to-day lives, history is a subject that you will enjoy greatly. If you like being challenged by new information and enjoy seeking the opinions of others to challenge your own perceptions you will certainly flourish in this subject. History draws on many sources of information to develop your analytical and writing skills, which can be transferred into many other areas of your studies.
Throughout your studies you will explore a range of time periods ranging from 1154 through to the modern day. Studies will focus around British history and non-British history, allowing you to delve into the events of that period, exploring your own and others perceptions. History is an excellent subject to reach many widespread topics that impact on our daily existence. Your opinions and experiences contribute greatly to this course and the opportunity to explore the viewpoints of others is a real niche of your study.
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above. Grade B or above in English Language.
You will be taught in a theoretical and practical setting and assessed via coursework and written exam papers.
Your successes in this subject can contribute to furthering your education at university studying a history based degree, or to support a main degree such as social sciences and humanities, English, Law or Economics. Careers in the legal profession, journalism and the media, politics and the civil service are ones that can be obtained by studying a history qualification at A level.
Opportunities lie to support the History department in the Academy working with students in Years 7-11. OPA would like to support students using their extended written and analytical skills to contribute to the OPA newspaper and website.
