ICT BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate at Hove Park School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

This course is designed for learners who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information alongside other fields of study. Learners will develop a common core of IT knowledge and study areas such as the relationship between hardware and software that form an IT system, managing and processing data to support business and using IT to communicate and share information. Learners will develop their knowledge and skills in IT systems, system management and social media in business.

Course content

Students will study 4 units in total. The first 3 are mandatory with then an optional 4th unit added to the course. The mandatory 3 units are:

  • Unit 1: Information Technology Systems
  • Unit 2: Creating Systems to Manage Information
  • Unit 3: Using Social Media in Business

Entry requirements

5 A*-C including English and Maths.


The full two year course has 4 assessed units. Two of these will be assessed internally and two by external moderators. Assessment will be a combination of written and practical performance for each unit.

Future opportunities

Career links to various roles in the IT industry such as game design, software engineer, web designer, systems analyst as well as providing a variety of transferable skills valued across higher educational institutes and employers. There are also progression routes onto IT courses at university.
