Entry requirements

To study Applied Science, you should have a genuine interest in Science, be self-motivated to complete independent project-based research, enjoy problem solving, be able to apply mathematical and ICT skills as well as being organised and able to listen carefully to advice.


Throughout the course your progress will be assessed through homework tasks, assignments and through topic specific tests and mock examinations.

Formal assessment will take place at the end of Year 12 and Year 13. The exam structure is as follows;

Paper 1 – (16.6% weighting) – unit 1

Paper 2 – (16.6% weighting) – unit 3

Paper 3 – (16.6% weighting) – unit 4

Units 2, 5 and the optional topic are internally assessed and you will be required to build a portfolio of work as evidence for the assessment criteria.

Future opportunities

This qualification is supported by a range of universities, and taken alongside other qualifications it can fulfil the entry requirements for a number of Science-related higher education courses, including Biomedical, Forensic and Sports science, as well as Nursing.
