Drama - Acting BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Level 3 at Holgate Academy

Course description

This is an ideal course for students who seek a Level 3 qualification, specialising in drama. It would particularly suit a student considering a future in the Performing Arts industry, drama at Higher Education level and those thinking of a career as a Drama teacher.

Students are given opportunities to attend live theatre through regular trips and visits. 

Course content

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Acting will cover the core units of rehearsing in and performing in year 12 and 13 and specialist units which currently include:
  • The Principles of Acting (Naturalism vs. Non-naturalism)
  • Auditions for Actors
  • Contemporary Theatre
  • Devising
  • Classical Theatre.

Entry requirements

A GCSE in Drama at grade A*-C is useful but not essential. Students should have 5 Cs or above grades at GCSE and a A*-C in English is appropriate.

If you did not take GCSE Drama you should be aware that on this course you must have confidence to perform and an aptitude for group work

Future opportunities

Most students on this course progress to Higher Education in Drama, or related subjects. With the skills acquired some students progress to Drama teaching (both primary and secondary).
