Graphic Design and Illustration - Level 3 (Full-Time) at Newcastle College
This is a specialist course which will help you develop your skills in this design discipline.
Diplomas are an alternate route into higher education or employment and boast a strong industry focus.
All students study:
- Basic Design Skills
- Design concept work
- Design For print
- Creative Advertising
- Lettering and typographical design
- Art and design history
- Computers in art and design
- Professional practice studies
Your course also includes GCSE or Functional Skills as appropriate in English and or Maths. Possessing these skills will help you to progress in education, training and employment and make a positive contribution in the community in which you live and work.
As well as GCSE & Functional Skills being embedded into all aspects of your course you will receive a dedicated lesson to enable you to develop your skills in the relevant subject area.
You must have completed your compulsory school education and should have achieved at least one of the following:
- 5 GCSEs A-C including English and Maths
- A BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design
- An Intermediate GNVQ in Art and Design
- An alternative equivalent qualification at the appropriate level
If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS score of 5.5 or above. In addition to this, you will also need to bring with you to interview a portfolio of relevant project work
You will put together a portfolio of work, evidencing the units of the qualification, which is internally assessed and externally moderated as the course progresses.
You could continue your studies by progressing to a Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design or a related area.
Previous students from this course have progressed to careers in Advertising, Marketing, Packaging Design Social Media Management and Print Design.
