UK Careers Academy at Luton Sixth Form College
Career Ready (formerly known as Career Academies UK) is a registered charity set up by the business community in 2002. They lead and support a movement of over 800 businesses and 120 schools and colleges, working together to raise the aspirations of 16 to 19-year-olds. At Luton Sixth Form College, we are proud to be the only Career Ready Programme in Bedfordshire. We work alongside a host of partners, including London Luton Airport, Santander, TUI, easyJet, Luton Borough Council, Barclays, Selex, Vauxhall and Luton Town Football Club, to provide our students with a unique experience which enhances and develops their learning and skills portfolio.
We have 3 specific themes:
- Business & Finance
- STEM Tourism
The Career Academy places great importance on expert Guru Lecturers visiting the college and sharing valuable time with our students. We also have a range of workplace visits and conferences to introduce students to a variety of professional environments.
Students will need to be available during their summer holidays to complete a 4-6 week work internship. All students on this scheme are mentored by our partners from businesses around Luton. They must also commit to attending scheduled Masterclasses and Industry Visits which aim to improve their employability skills.
We have a limited number of places and the demand is always very high. The Career Ready recruitment process involves application/interview and an assessment.
Students who wish to apply must be must have a genuine interest in enhancing their employability skills and be prepared to put in the extra time that is required.
Many graduates progress to careers in finance, tourism & hospitality, sales, administration and marketing. It is also excellent for a range of management roles in the private or public sectors. Other students have gone into a range of STEM related opportunities.
