English Literature at Waseley Hills High School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

AS: This course will consist of 2 units:

Aspects of Narrative and Dramatic Genres (coursework). The course aims to develop students’ abilities to read a range of texts confidently and thoughtfully. It provides opportunities for them to express their responses effectively through speech and writing, to engage in discussion and learn from others’ interpretations of texts. Coursework consists of a coursework portfolio, including a re-creative piece, in response to one of the plays studied.

A2: This course will consist of 2 units:

Texts and Genres and Further & Independent Reading (Coursework). The course aims to broaden and deepen the knowledge, skills and understanding developed in AS English Literature. In particular, students will be expected to develop an appreciation of the significance of the cultural and historical influences upon readers and writers. Coursework consists of two pieces in response to pre-released critical materials.

Entry requirements

Students must enjoy reading a wide variety of texts and be prepared to justify their insights in discussion and writing. The achievement of B grades in English and English Literature at GCSE are essential for the successful completion of the course.
