BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services at Tameside College

Course description

This is a full time programme where you will be expected to complete 9 units of work in year 1 and a further 9 in year 2. Your work is assessed by your tutors and you have the opportunity to gain either pass/merit/distinction grades in each unit. In addition to this you will undertake a tutorial with your progress tutor each week, where you will get the opportunity to develop other elements such as CV writing, time management, Higher Education preparation and advice on part time job opportunities.

Course content

'The course is designed to help develop the skills and qualities you would need to work in the Public Services or to go forward into Higher Education. You will experience a range of activities including classroom based learning, physical fitness training, outdoor and adventurous activities and a comprehensive work experience programme with a wide range of our Public Service organisations.Throughout the course you will study a range of topics including:Government, Policies and the Public ServicesLeadershipUnderstanding DisciplineInstructing Physical Activity / Physical PreparationCrime and its Effects on SocietyLand NavigationPlanning & Management of Major IncidentsSkills for Land-based / Water-based Activities

Entry requirements

'Learners are required to have 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above (new grading system) including Maths & English and will also be required to undertake a pre-course interview and assessment day. Candidates will be expected to be enthusiastic about embarking on a career in the Public Services and demonstrate this in all aspects of the course syllabus.
