Chemistry (A2) at Cheslyn Hay Sport & Community High School
AS and A2 units and content: The AS course provide a good grounding in the fundamentals of Chemistry. Atomic Structure and the mole are looked at in more detail along with the role of electrons in chemical bonding. Organic chemistry looks at the useful products that can be made from Crude Oil, along with the drawbacks that some of them bring. Rates of reaction and energy changes are looked at. In Y13 these areas, along with others are looked at in greater depth.
Grades BB or higher in core and additional GCSE Science is required or discrete sciences. A grade B or above in GCSE Maths is also necessary.
You could take this course with other advanced level courses, which overlap with Chemistry such as Biology, Applied Science, Physics, Geography, Geology or more general subjects that may not relate to the sciences, to prepare for higher education. With further training, you could go into a job related to Chemistry or one of the other sciences such as a Doctor, Nurse, Scientist or Pharmacist. The course will also help you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
