Course description

The BTEC Diploma is both practical and theoretical and is a one year course in which students will study 13 units. The core units include:- Fitness for Sport and Exercise (external exam) Practical Sport Performance Carrying out a sports related project The mandatory units include:- The Mind and Sports Performance The Sports Performer in Action Training for Personal Fitness Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Performance (external exam) The specialist units:- Designing Exercise Programs Work Experience in Sport Leading Sport Activities Lifestyle and Well-being Injury and the Sports Performer Running a Sports Event And also 2 mandatory units at Level 2 or GCSE in Maths and English

Course content

Principles of Anatomy & Physiology In Sport The Physiology of Fitness Assessing Risk in Sport Practical Team Sports Sports Coaching Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise Fitness Training and Programming Sports Development Sports Nutrition Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise Organising an event Profiling Sports Performance

Entry requirements

To gain entry to this course you must possess four or more GCSE's at grade D or above to include a minimum of a D in English & Maths (or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the College). You must also undertake a successful interview and provide satisfactory references. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

Students will be assessed through a variety of methods, consisting of written assignments, power point presentations, poster presentations, practical tasks, demonstrations, discussions, group work, voluntary work and online exams. Each assessment will be graded pass, merit or distinction grade.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course students may progress to employment within the industry or onto a suitable Level 3 Programme of Study within sport or health and fitness.
