Hairdressing Intermediate Apprenticeship at Leslie Frances Training

Course description

The hairdressing level 2 programme is aimed at learners who want a career in hairdressing.  The qualification covers all the areas needed to give a learner the knowledge and practical experience to carry out the skills in salon.  You will spend one day in our training school and remaining days in a salon placement (which we will assist you in obtaining). .

Course content

Hairdressing Level 2 covers:-

  • Health and safety in the salon
  • Team working
  • Shampooing, conditioning and treatments
  • Blowdrying with a wide range of hair styles
  • Creating long hairstyles
  • Setting hair
  • Cutting hair
  • Reception duties, booking appointments etc.
  • Colouring hair - foil techniques etc.
  • Permining as an optional unit
  • Client consultations
  • Plaiting hair

Entry requirements

There are no nationally agreed minimum entry or previous experienced requirements for this training programme. However, it is advantageous to have GCSE Grace C's in Maths and English however this is not compulsary as part of our framework includes Functional Skills Maths & English Level 1.

All applicants are initially given an informal interview, followed by an initial assessment to identify any additional support needs.  This will ensure that those who begin have the potential to complete the programme.




Learners are assessed both theoretically and practically

Theorotical assessment is conducted through online multiple choice exams

Practical assessments are conducted with tutor on a one to one bases with live models.

Functional skills are assessed via online and paperbased exams.


Financial information

Government funded.

Learners are paid minimum apprenticeship rate by salon.

Future opportunities

The course offers you a specialist work-based qualification to support a career in hairdressing or to progress onto studying for an NVQ level 3 in Hairdressing or a related subject such as an NVQ in Beauty or Business and Administration. With further training and experience, you could go onto working as a senior hair stylist or with the relevant business knowledge you could also set up your own hairdressing salon. The course is work based which means you can earn and learn at the same time whilst developing the skills, understanding and knowledge that employers in the hair and beauty industries are looking for.
