Mathematics A Level at Lawnswood School

Course description

This is a very academic subject to study and is highly regarded. It is an ideal way to continue studying maths if you enjoy the challenges it has to offer. It is the ideal next step if you have studied the higher tier GCSE and achieved a high grade.

It is an exam only based A level, which fits well with science subjects especially Physics.

 

Course content

We use AQA board for A level mathematics. A level maths combines aspects of pure ( core) mathematics together with Mechanics and Statistics.

Core maths main focus is differentiation and integration. Statistics looks into the statistical probaility of things by using techniques such as the normal distribution. Mechanics looks into forces and motion.

The A level will be examined at the end of the 2 years by examination only.

6+ in GCSE Maths

Assessment

Mathematics GCE is assessed at the end of the 2 years by examination only. We follow the AQA specification.

Financial information

We use the Cambridge text books for A level. These will be given to you when you put down a £10.00 deposit.

It is also useful to purchase revision guides and extra resources such as CGP revision guides and text books.

Essential is a scientific calculator. Desired is a graphical calculator (these can be loaned through school)

You will be asked to purchase an exam paper revision resource for £3.00.

Future opportunities

A level mathematics is a highly regarded qualification by universities and employers. It is an accepted A level for Science and Maths based degrees. It is useful in careers ranging from accountancy and engineering to travel and tourism.
