BTEC Sport Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Lymm High Voluntary Controlled School

Course description

The full qualification gained is the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching, Development and Fitness. The course comprises of 18 units, providing a broad and balanced view of sport. Units include Fitness Training and Programming, Sports Coaching, Practical Team Sport, Sports Nutrition, Psychology of Sports Performance and Physiology of Fitness.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A*-C or equivalent (GCSE PE or BTEC First Diploma in Sport is required). Your track record in PE should be exemplary as should your appearance and attendance. You should provide evidence of a commitment to competitive sports performance and coaching.


Work is continuously assessed via internally set assignments, moderated by Edexcel. Most units will have three or four pieces of assessed work that are graded on a pass, merit and distinction basis.

Assessment will be wide and varied consisting of both practical and theoretical assessments including written essays, interviews, presentations & practical performance. Students will gain a qualification equivalent to 3 A-Levels which will be graded from DDD-PPP based on students grades in each unit taught.
