History at Samuel Lister Academy

Course description

History is a well respected qualification by universities and employers.  It enables students to acquire an understanding and appreciation of the social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity through the study of Bitish and non British history.  Students develop as effective and independent learners with curious and enquiring mnds.  

Course content

The focus of the course is "Reform or Revolution"  You will study the Russian Revolution, the First world War, major changes in Britain in the Nineteenth Century and the French Revolution.

Entry requirements

Students will need at least 5 GCSE's and Grade A-C including a B in English.

Assessment

History is a four unit A level.  The AS is assessed by two 80min examinations.  At A Level there is one 2 hour examination and a series of coursework.

Future opportunities

History provides a pathway to study at university and can lead to careers in areas as diverse as the law and media.
