Literacy Skills at Palmer's College

Course description

When you start an A-level or Level 3 BTEC course you will be expected to write at an advanced level. Of course you will be given help in class with how to write, but a lot of students still find it difficult to express their ideas clearly, fully and logically.

These courses, which run for half a term, are designed to help you with this. Students who know what they want to say, but struggle to find how to express it, can make dramatic progress with their studies after taking this course.

Course content

This course takes an hour a week over half a term. It will help you to:
• Identify the purpose of what you are writing
• Organise your ideas
• Express these clearly, with good sentence structure, grammar and punctuation

Entry requirements

You can apply to join one of these courses or you will be referred by one of your subject teachers. If you are committed to improving your English, this course can make a world of difference to your success at Palmer’s and your future prospects.
