Course description

Component 1: Poetry

  • Section A: Poetry pre-1900
  • Section B: Poetry post-1900

Component 2: Drama

  • Section A: Shakespeare play
  • Section B: One pre-1900 and one post-1900

Component 3:

  • Unseen prose and poetry

Component 4:

  • One 2500-3500 word assignment based on the reading of two prose texts from different periods, one pre-2000 and one post- 2000. You will be given the opportunity to choose your own text to study for this part of the course.

 

Entry requirements

  • 5 in English Literature.

Assessment

Component 1: Poetry

  • Written examination: 2 hours
  • 30% of qualification

 

Component 2: Drama

  • Written Examination: 2 hours
  • 30% of qualification

 

Component 3: Unseen Texts

  • Written examination: 2 hours
  • 20% of qualification

 

Component 4: Prose Study

  • Non-exam assessment: 2500 – 3500 words
  • 20% of qualification

    • Alder Grange Sixth Form (ag6) opened as a new Sixth Form in 2010. Since then we have recruited students from across Rossendale and beyond on to a range of both A Level and BTEC level 3 courses. We have been delighted that our results have improved year on year and that Alder Grangers have successfully moved on from Sixth Form to University or the world of work in areas ranging from Music Production and Zoology to Teaching and Engineering. We have developed a strong sense of community and a warm, caring and supportive ethos.
